This is a fairly substantial sculpture which posed significant challenges to the casters as well as to Kara as she moulded and carved it in clay. Getting it from the studio to the casters was the first challenge, it was then formed around a fibreglass shell and finished with bronze resin.
I have had this piece sitting quietly (for storage!!) in the side of the living room. But I have picked up on the number of people that notice it and unprompted say 'wow!'
This piece would create a fantastic feature in any garden, large or small. Imagine it near a water feature, or even surrounded by planting.
The base shown is for display purposes and is not included. It can be mounted on a base of your choice using bolts secured by encapsulated nuts, or if prefered displayed with no base.
Cast in bronze resin, it could also come in iron, copper or aulmimium on request. Each of Kara's pieces comes with a signed certificate of authenticity and showing the number of that piece.
I love to work with clay and all my sculptures take inspiration from the sea and coast line near to where I live in Brighton. I had shells in mind when creating this, along with the movement of the tide and the eroded textures that it makes. I looked at many different shells when making 'Ocean' some from the beach nearby, others from friends collected on travels. I wanted to show with this a flowing moment and by using textures and curves, capture the essence of the ocean and coast.
