Made from Crank clay, this ceramic stoneware sculpture has three different surface textures, and incised lines overlaid with a white wash give a further contrast of colour and surface.
Both sides of the disc are decorated, and the circular 'peephole' allows a glimpse of foliage or light to be seen.
Each sculpture is hand-made, so no two will be exactly the same, but each will be similar in colour and size
I enjoy working from my studio at Barley Wood. Set in a beautiful rural location with views over the mendips and I find plenty of inspiration for my work. When starting Ripple Disc I had been thinking about the extraordinary map that nature gives us so we can look back in time. When a tree is felled the pattern of rings across the trunk can some times stretch back hundreds of years.
