I was very lucky to be shown the original clay model shortly after it was finished. I was immediately taken with it and now cast, it is as brilliant as I thought. It has a kind of elegance, gentle movement and serenity.
It would look good in either house or garden. Cold cast with bronze resin, the piece is mounted on a slate base. Twisting 180° from the base, it has a lightly textured surface and changes as you view it from different angles.
Standing nearly two feet high, it could be quite dominant if placed correctly. The height includes the base which is 5cm high by 17cm square.
Based near the sea in Sussex, I take an influence from the stones and shells washed up on the shoreline. Whilst some have smooth curved forms others have a little erosion but maintain their original shape and texture. These curves are reflected in the sculptures' elegant twisting shape, and the ripples in the sand made through the wash of the tide are shown with the repetitive indentation.
